UK study find many teenagers are clueless about QR Codes
A survey of 1000 British teenagers has found that 72% of 11-18 year olds don’t have the software to read QR codes or aren’t aware their phone can read them. Additionally, only 43% believed QR codes could be read by a phone, 8% of girls thought they were a magic-eye picture(!) and only 33% knew what they were called.
Most worrying about that quote is, “…aren’t aware their phones can read them”.
I think this is an area where Apple excels in, they educate people and really sell any new technology or features they build into their product to their customers. Facetime, which remember is nothing more glamourous than Video calling, is technology which has been around nearly a decade, however the marketing really evokes the emotion and value of a face-to-face conversation and makes it desirable.
I think education needs to come at each level: OS, application download and at the physical point of use.
