QR Code Spread Malware in Russia
Take the report with a large pinch of salt as it is from a security agency, and written-up a little sensationally.
The code actually contained malware that sent SMS codes to a premium rate number that charged for each message.
As people in the comments have pointed out, the code itself is unlikely to have contained a malware programme, it sounds like the app created a misleading SMS message which actually went to a premium service. Be vigilant, if unusual steps are being put in place, think twice.
